Passed away peacefully, 25th August 2025 (unexpectedly) in Mullingar General Hospital, following a sudden illness. Predeceased by his beloved parents Mary (2003) and James Gerard “Gerry” (1993), his brother Anthony (2023) and his infant sister Elizabeth.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Imelda, his children Stephen (with Louise), Ronan (with Aline), Orla (with Stephen), and Leona (with Colm), his cherished grandchildren Dylan, Nicholas, Max, Art, Nessa and baby Cuan, his siblings Maura, James Gerard, Catherine and Siobhán, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

A devoted teacher and builder of ideas, Michael taught Mathematics and Science at Sandymount High School in the 1970s. Together with his wife Imelda, he built and established The National Aquarium in Bray, Co. Wicklow. Having earned many qualifications including a PhD, he also published widely across several scientific disciplines.
